16 Hours | NAS 410 & SNT-TC-1A Compliant
The AMS Level 3 Magnetic Particle Testing Level I course provides a solid foundation in the principles and practices of MT for new or entry-level technicians. This 16-hour program introduces the theory of magnetism, methods of magnetization, discontinuity formation, and proper inspection techniques used across aerospace, manufacturing, and critical-service industries.
Training is designed to meet the requirements of NAS 410, ASNT SNT-TC-1A, and your employer’s Written Practice. Students learn how to prepare parts for inspection, select the correct method and equipment, apply magnetic particles, identify indications, and distinguish between relevant and nonrelevant conditions.
Course Topics Include:
• Basic magnetic theory and field characteristics
• Equipment types and proper magnetization techniques
• Wet and dry particle applications
• Understanding discontinuities and their origins
• Surface preparation and process control
• Evaluating, identifying, and recording indications
• Safety considerations and best practices
Upon completion, participants receive an AMS Level 3 training certificate documenting 16 hours of Level I MT instruction. Certification to Level I is issued by the student’s employer once the required OJT hours and examinations are completed in accordance with their governing Written Practice.
