The AMS Level 3 Liquid Penetrant Testing Level II course is a focused 16-hour program designed for technicians who have completed Level I and are ready to advance their inspection capabilities. This course expands on foundational PT knowledge and trains students to perform more complex examinations, evaluate discontinuities, and apply code or customer acceptance criteria.
Training aligns with NAS 410, ASNT SNT-TC-1A, and employer-based Written Practice requirements. Students learn how to plan penetrant inspections, select proper materials, verify process control, and provide accurate interpretation and documentation of results.
Course Topics Include:
• Review of Level I principles and PT process steps
• Advanced penetrant techniques and sensitivity levels
• Evaluation of discontinuities in welds, castings, forgings, and machined parts
• Process control checks, lighting requirements, and system performance
• Understanding nonrelevant and false indications
• Acceptance criteria and applicable codes/standards
• Inspection reporting, documentation, and traceability
• Troubleshooting PT process variables
• Safety, material handling, and regulatory considerations
Upon completion, participants receive an AMS Level 3 training certificate documenting 16 hours of Level II PT instruction. Final Level II certification is issued by the student’s employer after completing required OJT hours and examinations in accordance with their governing Written Practice.
