16 Hours | NAS 410 & SNT-TC-1A Compliant

The AMS Level 3 Liquid Penetrant Testing Level I course introduces technicians to the fundamental principles, processes, and inspection techniques used in PT across aerospace, manufacturing, and critical-service industries. This 16-hour program is built to give new inspectors a strong, practical understanding of penetrant materials, application steps, and interpretation methods.

Training meets the requirements of NAS 410, ASNT SNT-TC-1A, and your employer’s Written Practice. Students learn how to properly prepare parts, apply penetrants and developers, control dwell times, identify indications, and accurately differentiate between relevant and nonrelevant conditions.

Course Topics Include:
• Principles of liquid penetrant testing
• Penetrant types, methods, and sensitivity levels
• Surface preparation and cleanliness requirements
• Application techniques for penetrant, emulsifiers, and developers
• Dwell time, development time, and process control
• Discontinuity types and how they appear in PT
• Viewing conditions and inspection best practices
• Identification, evaluation, and documentation of indications
• Safety considerations and material handling

Upon completion, participants receive an AMS Level 3 training certificate documenting 16 hours of Level I PT instruction. Final Level I certification is granted by the student’s employer after all required OJT hours and examinations are successfully completed per their governing Written Practice.
